I envision learning that extends beyond classrooms into real, transformative experiences.

I’m dedicated to creating inclusive programs that empower students through real-world learning.

I strive to ensure every learner finds purpose, dignity, and lasting independence.
I’m Dr. Kevin Hogge, an educator, author, and advocate with over twenty years of experience in the special and general education sectors. I was born and raised in Virginia, and in 1992, I received my Bachelor of Arts from Virginia Wesleyan University, then proceeded to earn a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision, an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in Special Education Curriculum, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University.
Throughout my professional life, I have been trying to create a new image of education, especially for students with disabilities. I am a firm believer that learning should not be confined to the classroom and should cater not only to children’s needs but also to their abilities, thereby creating a more competent, confident, and socially accepted child who is able to withstand life’s challenges.
My work is a mixture of theory, practice, and passion. My aim is the same no matter if I am designing inclusive programs, mentoring teachers, or writing about transition and life skills: to make learning significant, real, and liberating for all students.
Designing Real-World Learning is my map for creating classroom situations that really prepare students for life after school. I wrote it for teachers who think that learning should be meaningful, practical, and based on respect.
Written on real-life examples, ready-to-use tools, and insights from my own students, the book shows how even the most straightforward concepts, such as running a school café or a community project, can positively affect our teaching and learning. It is about transforming education into something truly valuable.
This teaching manual has a significant influence on my thinking about teaching. It is practical, emotional, and narrated with real-life experiences that sometimes come to mind. Through the stories Dr. Hogge tells us, we get the picture of education being all about purpose, connection, and real life.
The pages of this book are a mirror showing my life as a special education teacher. There is a simplicity to the ideas, a truthfulness to the tone, and a power in the results. It has been a while since my students were so engaged in their work as they are now due to these strategies.
At last, here is a book that connects theory and reality! The way Dr. Hogge combines research with real-life classroom situations is so appealing. It feels as if you are getting the lessons from a colleague who has been there and done the work.
Designing Real-World Learning gave me a new sense of joy in teaching. The stories are so energizing, and the tools are so practical. It is more than just a book; it is a guide to casting the right light on making classrooms that truly prepare students for life.
This book is a must for all teachers! It is straightforward, optimistic, and full of such insights that you can use immediately. The feeling that I created in my school and the feeling of being inspired were when I finished it.
